AN ACT TO CREATE NEW SECTION 45-9-102, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO AUTHORIZE THE CARRYING OF CONCEALED WEAPONS BY HOLDERS OF A CONCEALED-CARRY LICENSE ON THE CAMPUSES OF THE STATE INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER LEARNING, COMMUNITY AND JUNIOR COLLEGES, AND PRIVATE AND INDEPENDENT INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION; TO PROHIBIT THOSE INSTITUTIONS FROM ADOPTING POLICIES RESTRICTING THE CARRYING OF CONCEALED WEAPONS ON CAMPUS; TO REQUIRE EACH STATE INSTITUTION OF HIGHER LEARNING TO ADOPT AND PUBLISH RULES AND REGULATIONS REGARDING THE CARRYING OF CONCEALED WEAPONS ON CAMPUS; TO AMEND SECTION 45-9-101, 45-9-53 AND 97-37-17, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, IN CONFORMITY TO THE PRECEDING PROVISIONS; TO BRING FORWARD SECTION 97-37-1, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, WHICH ESTABLISHES CRIMINAL PENALTIES FOR CARRYING CONCEALED DEADLY WEAPONS, AND SECTION 97-37-7, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, WHICH AUTHORIZES CERTAIN PERSONS TO OBTAIN A PERMIT FOR CARRYING DEADLY WEAPONS, FOR PURPOSES OF POSSIBLE AMENDMENT; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
